Steel and Aluminum and Derivatives Effective March 12th

Dear Valued Customer,

On March 3, 2025, the Commerce Department issued notices on the implementation of 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum effective March 12, 2025, under the direction of the Executive Order issued by the White House.

Effective March 12, 2025, 12:01 a.m. EST, for goods entered for consumption or withdrawn from warehouse, tariff rates for steel and aluminum and derivative products will increase to 25% over the general rate.

  • Iron or steel products and derivatives

  • Revised HTSUS are included in Annex 1 of the notice specifically declaring covered products and derivatives.
  • For derivatives, importers must report the value and quantity of the steel content of the article.
  • Aluminum products and derivatives

  • Revised HTSUS are included in Annex 1 of the notice specifically declaring covered products and derivatives
  • For derivatives, importers must report the value and quantity of the aluminum content of the article.
  • Exceptions –

    Goods eligible for free trade agreements or preference programs will still be eligible for any special duty rate applicable under the appropriate HTSUS number, but the steel or aluminum tariffs will apply.

Note: Regarding steel and aluminum derivatives, products identified in subheading (n) for steel and subheading (k) for aluminum, will not go into effect March 12th per section A of each Annex 1.  Those specific subdivisions will be effective upon public notification of the Secretary of Commerce.
