The White House released the pre-published Federal Register Notices on Adjusting Imports of Steel and Aluminum into the United States. They are scheduled to be published on February 18, 2025. This publication will include the annex which outlines the steel and aluminum derivatives that will be subject to the increased tariff.
Effective March 12, 2025, steel and aluminum and derivative products will be subject to an additional 25 percent tariff.
Annex I outlines 155 tariffs in Chapter 73 which will be assessed the full 25 percent tariff. There are 12 tariffs in Chapter 84, 85, and 94 which will be required to pay the tariff based on the steel content. Derivative steel products that are imported from steel articles that were melted and poured in the United States are not subject to the additional tariff.
Annex I outlines 18 tariffs in Chapter 76 which will be assessed the full 25 percent tariff. Additionally, there are over 100 other tariffs in chapters 66, 83, 84, 85, 87, 88, 90, 94, 95 or 96 which the 25 percent tariff will be assessed based on the content of the aluminum in the product.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is expected to provide further guidance on implementation soon.
